Marcela Mantilla, 2020 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

I am a senior at Gilroy High School and have enjoyed being a part of CJSF and CSF all throughout middle school and high school. I have been president of the CSF club at my high school for the last two years. Aside from my interest in community service through CSF, I play the clarinet, trombone, sing in the chamber choir and am proud to be the first female drum major at Gilroy High in over 20 years. Through this leadership position, I was able to play an important role in my high school’s recovery from the Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting. I was fortunate to be selected as a student ambassador and make the trip to Gilroy’s sister city, Takko Machi, Japan. I am also the captain of the Gilroy track team and have been league champion and CCS qualifier for the last three years. I have been a member of Girl Scouts since the second grade and I recieved my Silver Award for creating a donation closet that is still running today. I am passionate about leadership and helping communities, therefore I am extremely thankful that CSF has been able to help me pursue these passions. The last months of my senior year have been spent at home due to the coronavirus quarantine, but I have been keeping a positive attitude and am learning to plan my days to maintain my academic habits and physical endurance. I have been accepted to various colleges such as Notre Dame, Cal Poly, UC Berkeley and USC to study Industrial Engineering where I can combine my love of math with a business environment.
