Communication is Key

Hello CSF/CJSF Advisers!

California Scholarship Federation and California Junior Scholarship Federation are working to ensure that all advisers receive important news and information about awards, dues, and other opportunities and obligations.

Over the past three months a large number of advisers have not opened emails we sent using our MailChimp email . It is probable that you have not seen those emails because they are in your spam/promotions folder or are blocked by your school’s email server spam settings.

Letter to CSF Advisers: Seymour Award

It’s time to choose your top one or two seniors and start their nomination for the California Scholarship Federation’s Seymour Memorial Award, given out each year since 1935. The application packet must be submitted online no later than February 18, 2018. From all the nominations, we will choose the top 10 Sealbearers in each region, who then become the Seymour Finalists.  At your regional conference, we will interview the ten Finalists and select one to receive the Seymour Award for your region. Each of the ten Finalists will receive $2,000 and the single Charles F. Seymour Memorial Award recipient from each region will receive an additional $3,000.

We will be looking for those Sealbearers (Life Members) who best personify the CSF motto, “Scholars for Service.” Demonstrated excellence in both service (especially as a member of your chapter) and scholarship is key to a candidate’s selection.  If selected as a Finalist, the candidate must attend the spring conference in his or her region and fully participate in the interview process on that day in order to receive any financial award.  Finalists who are not able to attend the conference to participate in the interview process will forfeit their Finalist award.

All advisers whose chapters’ dues and lists are current through last year are eligible to nominate one or two students.  Candidates must be Sealbearers by the end of their first semester of the senior year. Their application packet must be completed according to the directions given and postmarked by the deadline in order to ensure their consideration for this award.

Additionally, each year the Seymour committee may need volunteers to participate in the application reading and evaluation process with them. We are hoping to grow our pool of volunteer advisers for this, so if you are interested, please call or email the Central Office.

We are looking for California’s finest, and with your help we will find them. If you need any assistance throughout the nomination process, please contact the Central Office. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
Nicole Bitney
CSF Seymour Committee Chair
