Session Guide - 6th Annual VSLC

#1 Art, Action, Impact: Creative Paths to Change

This session will introduce a structured approach to identifying community needs and developing actionable solutions through a step-by-step brainstorming process. Participants will be guided through each stage using a four-step framework, illustrated with real-world examples, including implementing and teaching art classes, conducting interviews and creating a website, organizing back-to-school drives supported by bake sales, and developing ongoing initiatives such as a community garden. The session will conclude with key takeaways to support participants in applying this process to their own communities.

#2 Mastering Your Time

This session provides high school students with practical strategies to manage their time more effectively and reduce academic stress. Students learn how to prioritize tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix, organize deadlines with digital planners, and break large assignments into manageable steps. The session also addresses minimizing distractions—especially phone use—and introduces the Pomodoro Technique to improve focus. By emphasizing balance and self-care, the session empowers students to work more efficiently and develop habits that support long-term success.

#3 How to Build a Strong and Engaging Social Media Presence for Your CSF Chapter

This session will examine the importance of social media for CSF communication and engagement, offering inspiration on how to build consistent chapter branding through cohesive colors, fonts, and logo placement. It will explore different types of effective CSF posts—such as service events, reminders, recaps, and recognition—and discuss how to plan content weekly or monthly using a posting calendar. Participants will also learn about tools for creating high-quality posts, including Canva templates and scheduling features, as well as engagement strategies using stories, polls, countdowns, and Q&A. Additionally, the session will share tips for increasing visibility through tagging, reposts, and collaboration with other clubs, along with time-saving methods officers can use to maintain a consistent posting routine.

#5 Starting a Teen-Founded Business: The Market Plan, Challenges, and Solutions

This workshop session will introduce DropCycle, a developing platform designed to streamline the buying, selling, and donating of clothing for teenagers. The presentation will outline how DropCycle addresses time constraints and reliability issues common to existing resale platforms through a two-part model that combines strategically placed donation bins with a mobile app. Participants will learn how items are collected, professionally photographed, priced, listed, sold, and shipped by the DropCycle team, allowing donors to earn a portion of the proceeds without managing the sales process. The session will also highlight DropCycle’s impact on youth entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and charitable giving, including the donation of unsold items to verified organizations.

#6 SPARC Learning with CSF Academic Coaching

This session will provide an overview of SPARC (Student Partner Academic Readiness Coaching), an organized peer-support program that evolved from a small CSF-member tutoring initiative into a structured academic support system. The presentation will highlight how approximately 30 CSF members support peers in content-specific courses, such as chemistry and algebra, while also coaching students on essential academic skills, including organization and effective note-taking. Attendees will learn how the program is structured, managed, and how a similar model can be successfully implemented at other schools.

Participants will hear from the Service Team on effective strategies for coordinating events, the Fundraising Team on approaches to maximizing funds, and the Class Representatives Team on systems for tracking and managing credits. The session concludes with a scholarship summary highlighting total funds raised and celebrating a record-breaking year for scholarships awarded.

#8 How Students Turn What They Care About Into Real Community Impact

This session focuses on how students can turn their passions and interests into meaningful community impact through small, realistic actions. Many students care deeply about issues around them but feel unsure how to act or believe their efforts need to be large to matter. The presentation explores how impact often comes from noticing gaps and stepping in through roles such as teaching, outreach, organizing, or creating resources, even when those roles are not very visible. Participants will learn how any skill or interest, including art, sports, writing, or technology, can become a form of service by addressing needs in their own communities. The session concludes with a simple framework to help students identify what they care about, recognize what is missing, and take a practical first step toward action.
