A CSF member for every semester of high school, Sophia has devoted much of her time in Mayfield Senior School’s chapter as a peer tutor. In other clubs on campus, Sophia has served as the Campus Ministry Council Member Co-Head, Vice President of the Spanish Honors Society, and the Latina’s Unidas Club Co-Head, all for the past four years. During her high school career, Sophia has also found time to cheer, dance, work as both a camp counselor and lifeguard, plus so much more. If that wasn’t enough, she has also been an active girl scout since kindergarten.

After graduating, Sophia will be attending either The University of Michigan, UC San Diego, or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She plans to major in biology and become a pre-med student with a goal of working as a dermatologist.

When I asked her to tell me something that her friends would say about her, she said they would say she was “extra”. If her friends were loud, she would be “extra loud, if silly, she would be extra silly…

Serving as this year’s CSF president at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, Alana has been a member all four years. She also currently serves as the Key Club president since 2021 where many community services were conducted such as shoe drives, school supply drives, diaper drives, writing letters to senior citizens, leukemia patients and finally hosting an annual Christmas party for underprivileged youth.

Alana is also the founder and current vice president of Girls in STEM on campus. This is obviously her biggest passion as she has even become a published author with a book called Yuna Soars With STEM, a children’s picture book that follows a journey of female empowerment in STEM. Proceeds from this book go back into her organization. Available on Kindle today. Buy it!

Looking ahead to college, Alana has applied to numerous CSU’s and UC’s, including UCLA, and has also applied to Brown and Yale. Public Health will be her focus as she works towards becoming a surgeon.

Guilty pleasures include binge watching Gilmore Girls and practicing the art of glass blowing.

CSF at Simi Valley High School is where you will find Allison as this year’s current vice president in an active chapter involved in such activities as Snap raise fundraiser, peer tutoring, various restaurant nights, and hosting the induction ceremony for both CVSF and the National Honor Society. She is also the current president of the senior class, Vice president of NHS, Student choreographer for the dance team, and current treasurer for the Art Beat club, plus much more.

Her future plans are to enroll at either San Diego State, Cal Lutheran, or the University of Las Vegas, where she would like to utilize her skills to major in hospitality and work as an event planner.

In her limited down time, you might find her in the kitchen baking something delicious. Wow, event planning, baking. I think we can use your skills here in CSF!

Fiona Hemstreet, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist and Recipient

Village Christian School in Burbank is where Fiona is a four-year member of her school’s CSF chapter. Two events that she is proud of have been the stress ball fundraiser and the encouraging Post it notes campaign. In other activities and clubs on campus, Fiona is the current editor in chief of yearbook, the Founder and President of Just Do Something Club, and the Treasurer of the Girls Who Code Club both since 2021. Fiona too has been a Girl Scout since 2009. Volunteering is much of who she is, serving her time with Aviva Family and Children’s Services, and the Ronald McDonald House. In sports, Fiona has been the Team captain and MVP twice for both softball and volleyball.

Her dream college is Northeastern University, but she has also applied for the University of Michigan, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is considering a major in either Social Justice or science.

When she was little, Fiona loved turtles. And now, partly as a joke, but partly from this childhood love, friends and family buy her turtle figurines, pins, pictures etc. If it has a turtle on it, it’s perfect for Fiona!

Swarada Kulkarni, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist

President this year, and vice president last year of the CSF chapter at West Ranch High School, Swarada has been a member all four years of high school. She has led this chapter in many service opportunities from Project Linus blanket making, Cards for Assisted Living Homes, toy drives, food drives, and so much more. In addition to CSF, Swarada is also the Speech and Debate Club captain /president, an Honors team member of her school’s Academic Decathlon team, president of her school’s National Art Honors Society, and the Founder & CEO – of the Bridge to Hope Foundation a Nonprofit Organization that has Recruited 50 students globally and led committees; to assist underprivileged areas with fundraising; masks and sanitizer to 10K people in 3 Indian villages. Celebrating her cultural heritage, Swarada is a Dragonboat competitive paddler and classical Indian singer.

Her future college plans include either USC or UC Berkeley where she plans to major in neuroscience and molecular biology.

An interesting fact about Swarada, she has been a vegetarian since birth.

Weber Lin, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist

At Arcadia High School, Weber has been a CSF member for all four years. Creating a major community service initiative, Weber organized, produced and distributed 3D printed PPE for frontline workers during the 2020 COVID epidemic. As the Project Founder/Fundraiser/PR Officer/Manager, he crowd-funded and raised over $5,000.00, printed and distributed over 3100 pieces of PPE worldwide. In sports, Weber is the current cross country team captain. Musically, Weber is 1st clarinetist, and the Gig Coordinator for the Music Makes Miracles club on campus. Outside of school, involved with scouting, Weber has obtained the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

With plans to attend either MIT, Harvard, Yale or Princeton, Weber plans to major in bioengineering and enter the career field of bio printing, which as he explained to me is like 3d printing using human cells to create organs.

If later you hear strange sounds, it just might be Weber playing the bagpipes.

Celeste Morales, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist

Serving as last year’s vice president and this year’s current president of Duarte High school’s CSF chapter, Celeste has led numerous service projects such as Girls love mail, blankets for pups, sock drives, food drives and the Panda Express fundraiser. She has also been the vice president of her class for the past three years. In Key club, her volunteer heart thrives in such activities as Steps for a cause, Children’s Book Sales, Kid-Fit 5k Run, Junior Olympics Track Meet

And the Cesar Chavez Day of Service. In basketball, Celeste has served as team captain for the past three years, and is currently the team captain for volleyball. Her plans for post high school is to attend either the University of Laverne or UC Irvine where she has planned to major in public health with the career goal of becoming a registered nurse.

This year’s current CSF president at Ulysses S. Grant High School, Liana has been an active member all four years of high school. In her chapter she has participated in such activities as Hope of the Valley Food Drive, clothes drives, animal shelter food drives, letters to the homeless living in shelters plus so much more. In addition to CSF, Liana is also the founder and president of the Women in STEM club, as well as the current vice president of the associated student body. Liana is also the founder and CEO of the nonprofit group Opportunities for All. A member of her school’s Academic Decathlon team, Liana is the current president/ team captain.

Having applied to more than 17 colleges, Liana has her sights set on Stanford, UC San Diego, Cal Lutheran or CSU Long Beach. She plans to major in either biology or neuroscience with goals of becoming a veterinarian or a neurosurgeon, or maybe both?

In her quiet time, Liana enjoys crocheting.

Ashlyn Ro, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist

Serving as this year’s CSF president at Simi Valley High School, Ashlyn has been involved in many activities such as Puzzles For the Troops, Holiday Cards Snap raise fundraiser, peer tutoring, and various restaurant nights, including Panda Express, Carl’s Junior, and Mod Pizza. In addition to CSFG Ashlyn is the ArtBeat Club  Co-Founder, National Honor Society President, The Joyful Noise Project Co-President, the HOSA Future Health Professionals President, and finally the Women in STEM club President, among many others. Outside of school Ashlyn serves as Chair of the Simi Valley Youth Council this year, as the vice chair last year and a member of the council since 8th grade.

Ashlyn plans to major in either biology or molecular biology and hopes to attend UCLA, Claremont McKenna, Stanford or Pepperdine. While not exactly on a specific career, Ashlyn knows her future will be in the medical field.

Ashlyn is also a Piano Soloist for the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic and offers private piano lessons. Perhaps this is why in her spare time, she and her sisters enjoy composing songs.

Jolene Roohan,, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award South Central Region Finalist

Officer positions were not offered to CSF students at Bishop Montgomery High School, but that didn’t stop Jolene from being a member all four years of high school and serving her time as a peer tutor. Outside of CSF, Jolene is the President and Founder of Asian Pacific Islander Student Association, and Co-president of the class of 2023 since her freshman year. Outside of school Jolene has had the opportunity to serve on Congressman Ted Lieu’s Youth Advisory Council from 2020-2022. She was also involved with the UCLA Pre-Medical Summer Scholars Program where she amassed 80 hours where she participated and trained other high schoolers in basic medical skills such as suturing, scrubbing, robotic surgery, and other medical simulations. In addition to all of this, Jolene has worked as a Physical Therapy Intern with more than 100 hours of time spent.

All of this effort is leading her to Boston College in the Fall to major in Biology, then to med school to one day work in the surgical technology field.

During her brief moments of relaxing, you might find her binge watching the Office, or in the kitchen baking, a skill she acquired during those long months of quarantine.

Zoe attends Archbishop Mitty High School where she is a three-year CSF member. As a 4-year member of BSU and Archbishop Mitty Community Service Program she is the Freshman Orientation Leader, Campus Ministry Retreat Leader and Corp Leader of LIFE. 
She currently is in the National Honor Society and is an AP Scholar with Honors.
Zoe is often referred to as an “old soul” by her peers and teachers.  Through struggles she has learned to endure and survive.  She volunteers as a camp counselor at a Camp named “Camp Phoenix” in which she states was her lifeline. 
Although she has been accepted to over 15 colleges, she still has 17 more she has applied to.  Her number one choice is Stanford or Reed College.  Her plans are to major in History. 
Her Art Teacher is amazed by her talents and depth of knowledge and in her spare time you might find Zoe painting a lotus.

Adam is a 4-year member of CSF and has been Sergeant of Arms, and President, presiding over the leadership committee. He is an International Baccalaureate Certificate Candidate for English, Math, History, and Physics. Adam coded questions into textbooks on Norton’s online platform and was given a job at the conclusion of his internship with Bittner Development Group. Also, part of the Robotic team, Choir, Track and Field Team with leadership positions across the board.
With the Young Men’s Service League Adam helps local nonprofits on food insecurity issues in the community making and delivering meals to families, served the homeless, organized food drives and collected food for his community during the lockdown. He earned the YMSL Service Award for going above & beyond.
Adam hopes to attend USC or Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Science.  Adam can write a few languages:  Python, Java, and Javascript, to name a few!

Adrienne has been involved in CSF and community service activities for 4 years.
Her leadership skills are evident in:  Executive Vice President for ASB, Medicinal & Organic Chemistry Researcher, Founder and Executive Director of “The Neuro”, charity Piano Player, Founder/President and Leader of seven clubs, Editor-in-Chief for the Prospect High magazine and volunteers and as a Homework Tutor. Adrienne has most recently been awarded the Journal of Emerging Investigators Editor’s Choice Winner, National Piano Guild Auditions Gold Medalist, MathCON National Finalist, and won the Scholastic Art & Writing Contest. Adrienne co-authored Research Publications regarding Organic Chemistry, wrote several manuscripts and has been involved in research with the Southern California Conference. She was an Intern for Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Research and interned at BrainSightAI.
She currently works at Peet’s Coffee and Tea and loves to create the coconut black chai beverage.
Adrienne hopes to attend UCLA and major in Neuroscience, Interdisciplinary Studies, Biomedical Science or Bioengineering.

She has successfully led the College and Career Club for two years, acted as Migrant Student Association Club Vice President, and plays vital roles in her Senior Class ASB, Red Cross Club and is a Cabin Leader for Santa Cruz County Outdoor Science School. 
Angelica says she has found her voice, where she had struggled before.
She has applied to UC Berkeley, USC, UCLA, San Diego State and San Jose State.  If you ask her where she would like to spend the next four years, she would choose USC.  She will major in Business of Cinema. 

Autumn Hamlin, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

Autumn has been a member of CSF all 4 years at Las Lomas High School.
She has been active in her community and school with the Blood Pressure Project, a mentorship opportunity with current UC Berkeley pre-med students, focusing on the college admissions process and gaining insight into finding one’s niche in pre-health majors.  Autumn is Co-Editor in Chief at her High School, she has taught lessons on writing and photography, volunteered at the Stanford Garden and was a four-year Captain of the Volleyball Team.
Although she has not made a decision yet regarding where to spend her next four years of college, UC Berkeley would be her choice. Her goal is to double major in Public Health and English. 
Autumn likes to run for fun and reads in her spare time. 

Alex Huang, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

For the past six school years, Alex has been a member of CJSF and CSF.  He is the president of Castro Valley High School’s CSF chapter, where he has taken part in many activities.  To name a few: tutoring, helped with the Castro Valley Coastal Clean Up, card making for the young to the elderly. 
He has volunteered for the Food Pantry and the Red Cross Collaboration. Alex has held many leadership positions; he currently serves as President of Teens for Real Estate and Distributive Education Clubs of America.  He is the Varsity Tennis Captain and has been involved with the San Francisco Giant Race, Berkeley Half Marathon, Castro Valley Cross Country Event, Lake Chabot Trail Run.
Alex is also active in the Homework Center as a stellar tutor and volunteered for their Summer Program. Alex also plays the piano.
Looking forward, Alex has applied to many UC’s and Ivy League colleges, including his two top choices, Stanford and UC Berkeley.  He will make final decisions soon. He will major in Finance and Economics.
And lastly, a known fact is that he likes to document the past, a historian if you will.

Kathryn Huffman, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

A four-year CSF member and co-president for two years for Monte Vista High School in Morgan Hill. In her extremely active chapter, Kathryn has participated in these fine events:  Veterans Day Decoration, Foster Care Easter Baskets, Operation Christmas Child, recognition for school staff and created Ornaments for Ranchos De Los Ninos plus so many others.
Kathryn has served as a 12th grade Vice President for ASB.  This year, she is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.  In other roles, Kathryn is the founder and current president of Heart Felt Sewing Charity and volunteers for Martha’s Kitchen.
She is a member of the Volleyball Team and the Basketball Team and has received the Mustang Award for both.  She also loves to teach Taekwondo and works as a lifeguard.
Kathryn has applied and been accepted to such prestigious schools as Baylor, Point Loma, Palm Beach, and University of New Mexico.  She would pick Baylor now but has a little time to decide.   Her plans are to major in Biology and someday become a doctor.
When asked what type of car she likes, a very quick answer was, A Red Ferrari!

Gwenyth Lemon, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

A four-year member of CSF at Paso Robles High School, you will find Gwenyth as this year’s senior class treasurer, Member of the LINK Crew, playing basketball or on the track and field sprinting.  In the past few years, Gwenyth has been a counselor in training and has had an IT Internship at the School District setting up Chromebook carts, computer labs and updating computers.   She placed 3rd in the SkillsUSA for Related Technical Math State Competition and was 2nd place at the Trig Star Regional.  Gwenyth plans to attend UC Irvine but has a few others in mind as well.  She will major in Chemical Engineering.  She loves math and chemistry. 
On a side note, she has learned so much from having Type 1 Diabetes.  She attended camp for many years and became a leader last year to help other children learn how to cope with Type 1 Diabetes as they grow. 
Gwenyth knows that she is self-confident and stands strong.

Marta is a three-year member of CSF in her chapter at Archbishop Mitty High School. Throughout her time in CSF, Marta has assisted with such activities as Teens for Teens Christmas Drive, Open House Tour Guide, is involved with English and Math Peer Tutoring, Freshman Orientation Leader and helps at Graduation.  Just this year alone, she has been a Kindergarten Peer Tutor, Campus Ministry Eucharistic Minister and Cornerstone Leader.  She leads in her Debate and Speech Competitions, has been awarded Honor Role and an AP Scholar with Honor Award.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Marta plays on the Lacrosse team, is manager of the varsity Men’s Basketball, and a PIT Leader. 
She has a lot of school spirit and will take that school spirit with her to one of the 16 colleges she has applied to. For now, it is a toss-up between UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley.  Whichever one she chooses they will be very lucky to get Marta.  Her goal is to major in Political Science and Public Policy. 

Ankita Sundar, 2022-2023 CSF Seymour Award Central Coast Region Finalist

As a director first, then two-time president of her CSF chapter at Presentation High School, Ankita has been an active member for the past three years. She has been involved in many activities and started Digital Educate, a nonprofit organization to teach coding workshops on Scratch and Python. Ankita hosts a podcast initiative called Power2LeadHer.  She is the President of Girls Who Can Code Club and also the President of Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs.  Ankita is a member of many clubs and organizations such as: Math and Science Academy and Mu Alpha Theta Society.  She has been recognized by the International Literacy Association, Global Food Sustainability Award, George W. Bush Daly Point of Light, SWENext Global Innovation, a recipient of the US President Volunteer Service Gold Medal and UNA-USA National Community Service Award. In 2021, Ankita was hired by University of Washington as an Intern for Data Science Research.
Ankita has applied to many colleges and has been accepted to Purdue and University of Maryland.  As of now, these colleges might be getting a great computer Science Major and Business Minor.

2022-2023 Seymour Award Central Region Recipient – Danelia Palma

Danelia is a four-year member of CSF in her chapter at Redwood High School in Visalia and is currently the secretary. Throughout her time in CSF Danelia has assisted with such activities as toy drives, breast cancer awareness drives, trunk or treat, elementary school carnivals, plus many others.

She also serves as the membership chair of Key Club, is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, and also stays active in the ultimate frisbee club. Speaking of being active, Danelia also excels in water polo, diving and dancing, as well as performing gymnastics for the past thirteen years.

Outside of school, Danelia serves as a youth leader and volunteer at her neighborhood church.

Her options for higher education are numerous, having applied to San Diego State, CSU Channel Islands, Fresno State and UCLA. Her goal is to major in business administration, with a planned career in economics.

Her love of gymnastics has given her the unique ability to walk on her hands for almost a minute and to breakdance.
