Photos Needed for CSF 100th Anniversary TV Ad

We need photos of CSF and CJSF members for a TV promo ad which will run during 2021 to showcase CSF during the 100th anniversary year.

Photo requirements:

  • Every person shown in the photo must be identified by name.
  • Every person shown in the photo must sign or have a parent/guardian sign a publicity release form. Get the Publicity Release form here.
  • Photo should include CSF banner, regalia, poster, or other CSF identification.
  • A description of the activity and date would be helpful.
  • Photos not used for this TV ad may be used for other CSF promotions.

Marian Huhn Award Nominations Open November 15-February 25

Advisers are invited to nominate one or two California Junior Scholarship Federation members who exemplify the ideals of the Marian Huhn Memorial Award. This award recognizes outstanding 7th & 8th grade student members of California Junior Scholarship Federation for their academic excellence and service to the school and community.

A total of $6,250 is awarded annually, with five students from each region receiving a $250 award.

Students must be nominated by their CJSF Adviser using the online nomination form here https://csf-cjsf.org/cjsf-awards/

Nominees must participate in their region’s virtual Huhn Workshop to be considered for the financial award.

CJSF DiGiovanna Award Essay Contest for 2020

November 1, 2020 – January 13, 2021, CJSF members in 7th and 8th grade are invited to write an essay in response to the following prompt:

This year has brought forth many changes in each of our lives. How have you maintained the CJSF ideals of serving your community during these challenging times? Share one or two service opportunities that you participated in or created over this past year.

There will be one award recipient in each region; each winning recipient will receive a $100 award.

Michelson Award Essay Contest for 2020

CSF members submit your essay between November 1st and December 22nd. This $1,000 award is available to all seniors who are members of a CSF chapter in good standing.
Write an essay in response to this prompt: Describe a volunteer experience you have had and its impact on you and your community.

Community Service Ideas: Collaborative Document

Please add any great ideas you would like to share with the CSF/CJSF Community.

If you want to keep track of or maintain accountability for individual student community service hours:
Create a verification of service form and distribute to students before they perform service. Include: student name, event, authorized adult signature, date, number of hours. Etc. You may need to verify adult signatures.

It is never a bad idea to contact your local newspaper or TV new channel to promote and publicize your event.

 

IDEAS (gathered from other advisers at previous adviser conferences):

  • Adopt a bus bench
  • Adopt a family in need (e.g. Thanksgiving baskets)
  • Adopt a museum display
  • Adopt a new student to help ease their transition
  • Adopt a grandparent or preschool or bulletin board
  • Adopt a highway (every quarter)
  • Animal literacy: socialization at the animal shelter (read to dogs)
  • Answer letters to Santa
  • ASPCA (e.g. collecting blankets for animal shelters, etc.)
  • Assist at Open House or Back to School night
  • Assist with existing tutoring programs
  • Assist during textbook distribution
  • Bicycle repairs
  • Box tops for elementary schools (count/collect)
  • Breast Cancer awareness
  • Candy stripers
  • Celebrate local police or firefighters and host a dinner for them
