50th Anniversary DiGiovanna Memorial Award
In honor of CJSF’s 50th Anniversary and the recent passing of long-time CJSF adviser / CSF-CJSF Board Member Joanna DiGiovanna, we are excited to introduce a new award for CJSF students this year.
CJSF student members in 7th & 8th grades of chapters in good standing are invited to submit an entry by the January 11, 2017 deadline. The winning entry will be announced on March 1st and the recipient will receive a $500 award. Additional winners may be selected, depending on the availability of funds.
To apply, students must write a personal letter in response to the following prompt:
Mrs. Joanna DiGiovanna was a dedicated CJSF adviser who volunteered much of her free time to CJSF activities. She cared deeply about CJSF students and encouraged them to strive to achieve as well as volunteer their time.
If she were alive today, what could you tell Mrs. DiGiovanna about the community service you do and the difference your efforts make in the community?
Essays must be submitted via this link by January 11, 2017.
- Personal letter format. Sign your letter with your first name & word count. Please do not include your last name or school name in the letter.
- Typed & double-spaced
- 600 – 800 words
- One entry per student
The winning student and his/her adviser will be notified by the selection committee by March 1.

ABOUT JOANNA DIGIOIVANNA
Mrs. DiGiovanna was a very dedicated teacher and CJSF adviser at Piute Middle School in Lancaster who was passionate about the CJSF members in her chapter as well as throughout California. She later served as a volunteer on the State Board of Directors for eight years as CJSF Vice President (South Central) and CJSF Registrar until her passing in June 2016.
